Activities
The Bala region is brimming with outdoor activities. It was the location for the World Canoeing championships on the challenging River Tryweryn. At the excellent National White Water Centre, less than ½ a mile from Cysgod y Garn, you can experience the thrill of the riding rapids either in a canoe or one of the centre's rafts.
There are opportunities for shooting game or clays as well as golf, ten pin bowling and many other activities.
Bala has an excellent new leisure centre by the lake-shore with a safe pool for the children, a well-equipped gym and a café where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic view of the lake.
On the shore of Bala Lake there is also a sailing club and a waterborne activities centre. People come from far and wide to enjoy the lake for sailing and windsurfing.
The River Dee and its local tributaries are famous for fly fishing and there is excellent fishing to be enjoyed on several local lakes.
Walking is a favourite activity with many visitors to the area and little wonder with the wealth of beautiful countryside that abounds. Horse and pony trekking are also within a few minutes drive. Mountain climbing and abseiling for the more adventurous and for the those who would like to try off -road 4-wheel driving; there are excellent courses available from Bala.
There is a charming steam railway which travels the lengh of the Lake.
The Tourist Information Centre is located at the lake-shore and has all the information you will need to find the activities you require, or maybe you will find new ones to challenge you.

Of course the castles of North Wales are renowned for their splendor, with more than half a dozen within easy drive from us.
Portmeirion - The Italianate village of Portmeirion, where the Prisoner" Sci-fi series was filmed, is always worth a visit.
At Blaenau Ffestiniog travel underground at Llechwedd, the deepest Slate mine in the world.
Pistyll RhaeadrAt Llanrhaeadr one of the 7 wonders of Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr, a 74m high waterfall that is truly breathtaking.
At Betws y coed wonder at the Swallow falls.
